FAQs

Choosing a memorial is an important decision, and we understand that you may have questions along the way. At Silbaugh Memorials, we are here to make the process comfortable, straightforward, and personal.

Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. If you don't see your question answered, contact us and we'd be happy to help.

Getting Started

How do I begin the process of selecting a memorial?

You can begin by visiting our showroom, calling us, or contacting us to schedule a consultation. We will walk you through the available memorial styles, granite colors, sizes, lettering, designs, and personalization options.

You don't need to have everything decided before you come in. Our experienced staff will help you explore your options and find something that fits both your wishes and your budget.

Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome at our Shrewsbury showroom during regular business hours.

Appointments are recommended if you'd like dedicated time to sit down and discuss a memorial in detail.

Our Aberdeen location is available by appointment.

What should I bring with me?

If you are purchasing a memorial for a cemetery, it is helpful to bring any information you have about the cemetery, including the section, lot number, or cemetery contact information.

If you have an existing family memorial, photographs of it can also be helpful. If you already have an idea for an inscription, poem, symbol, or design, feel free to bring that along as well.

Memorials & Personalization

What types of memorials do you offer?

We offer a wide variety of granite memorials, including traditional monuments, slant markers, flat markers, companion memorials, individual memorials, cremation memorials, and other personalized memorial options.

We can also assist with columbarium projects and installations.

Can I customize a memorial?

Yes. Personalization is one of the most meaningful parts of creating a memorial.

Depending on the memorial, you can choose from different granite colors, shapes, lettering styles, designs, symbols, artwork, dates, inscriptions, and other personal details.

Our goal is to create a memorial that reflects the individual being remembered.

Can you match an existing family memorial?

In many cases, yes. We can look at an existing family memorial and help determine the appropriate granite, lettering, layout, and design options.

Bring us a photograph or visit our showroom so we can discuss what may be possible.

Cemetery Requirements

Do you contact the cemetery for me?

Yes, we handle communicating with the cemetery and determining its memorial requirements.

Cemeteries may have specific rules regarding memorial size, type, foundation, placement, lettering, and installation.

We will help you understand what is required before your memorial is completed.

Can I purchase a memorial from you if the cemetery is outside your area?

Contact us with the cemetery information and we can discuss the project and whether we can provide and install the memorial.

We serve customers throughout Southern Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, including Harford and Baltimore Counties and the Aberdeen, Maryland area.

What if I don't know the cemetery's rules?

That's okay. Don't worry about figuring everything out yourself.

Give us the cemetery information and we can help determine what requirements need to be considered before you make your final selections.

Pricing

How much does a memorial cost?

There isn't one set price for a memorial. Cost depends on several factors, including the size and type of memorial, granite color, lettering, design, artwork, installation, and cemetery requirements.

We can help you choose an option that fits your needs and budget without sacrificing the quality or meaning of the memorial.

Why do memorial prices vary so much?

Memorials are highly customizable. Two stones that look similar may have very different costs based on their size, granite, amount of lettering, artwork, finish, and installation requirements.

We will explain the options clearly so you can make an informed decision.

Payment Options

We accept cash, check and credit cards for your convenience.

Our pricing reflects our payment processing options. Any applicable difference for credit card payments will be clearly disclosed before payment is processed.

Please ask us about available payment options when planning your memorial.

Ordering & Installation

How long does it take to receive a memorial?

Timeframes vary depending on the memorial, customization, cemetery requirements, and current production schedules.

During your consultation, we will provide an estimated timeframe

for your specific order.

Do you install the memorial?

Yes. We provide professional memorial installation as part of our services.

Will I see the design before the memorial is made?

For customized memorials, we will review the design and inscription details with you before production so you have an opportunity to make sure everything is correct.

Can I make changes after I place my order?

Changes may be possible depending on where your order is in the production process. Contact us as soon as possible if you need to make a change.

Pre-Planning

Can I purchase a memorial before someone passes away?

Yes. Many families choose to plan and purchase memorials in advance.

Pre-planning allows you to make decisions at your own pace, personalize the memorial, and reduce the number of decisions your family may have to make later.

Is pre-planning only for older adults?

Not at all. Families may choose to pre-plan for many different reasons. Some people simply prefer to make their own decisions about how they want to be remembered.

Can spouses or family members plan their memorials together?

Yes. Companion memorials and family memorials can be planned in advance, allowing families to make decisions together.

Veterans & First Responders

Do you offer a discount for veterans or first responders?

Yes. Silbaugh Memorials offers 10% off any memorial for military veterans and first responders.

Please let us know at the time of purchase so we can apply the discount.

Can you include military or first-responder symbols on a memorial?

Yes. We offer a variety of symbols, emblems, and designs that can be used to personalize a memorial and honor a person's service.

After the Memorial Is Installed

Can you clean or restore an existing memorial?

We can discuss options for cleaning, maintenance, lettering, and other memorial services. Contact us with information about the memorial and what you would like to have done.

What if the memorial becomes damaged?

Contact us as soon as possible. We can evaluate the memorial and discuss possible repair or replacement options.
